Larry Elder, California Recall Frontrunner, on Big Tech

Eight weeks later, although the recall effort would ultimately fail, Elder would raise more than $22 million, and receive some 3.5 million votes, more than all of his political rivals combined. During that run for Governor, Salem utilized Carl Jackson, a rising star from Orlando, to sub for Larry and never missed a beat. Carl has agreed to resume the host duties for the foreseeable future, until Salem is ready to announce a permanent replacement.

Elder later dated Patricia Stewart from 1996 to 2012, and they have remained friends since their separation. Elder then dated Alexandra Datig, a longtime former radio producer for him, and was engaged to her from 2013 until 2015. Elder does not believe in systemic racism, calling it a lie. He is a critic of the Black Lives Matter movement, blaming it for rising crime.

A host of other Republican challengers trailed far behind, including businessman John Cox, whom Newsom defeated in the 2018 race for governor, with less than 5% of votes, and state Assembly Member Kevin Kiley, with about 3%. Former Olympian and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner had received about 1% of votes. Elder had entered the recall campaign just days before the filing deadline but zoomed to the top of a long list of candidates running against Newsom. Governor Gavin Newsom handily defeated a historic recall effort, with results on Tuesday night showing residents of the Golden state opposing the effort to remove him from office in greater numbers than some experts initially expected.

Judge Elder is married to a retired clinical and school psychologist. He and his wife have three adult children, two of whom are attorneys and one who has worked as an elementary school teacher and physical therapy assistant. Judge Elder enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, gardening/landscaping, and skiing. He has been a life long political junkie who enjoys predicting actions and motivations of politicians regardless of philosophy or political party.

Larry created, directed and produced his first film, “Michael & Me,” a documentary that examines the history and use of guns in America. He served as Judge of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, 11th Judicial District, for more than five years, serving as chief judge for a period of time. During his tenure there he authored hundreds of opinions. Judge Elder left the Court of Appeals in September 2013 and served briefly as a consultant in a local Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
